EXCELLENCE
& SAFETY
2019 was another successful year of pursuing, winning, planning and completing work, due in large part to our ongoing focus on operational excellence — and operational excellence always starts with safety.
We surpassed 31 million labor hours alongside our trade partners and
our commitment to total project safety has never been more important. Not only are we building safely at record levels — we’re doing it while project complexity and speed of schedule increase. As labor hours grow, we’re taking steps to actively grow and protect our safety culture. Safety
is the foundation of our business and will always be the most important thing we do.
Bringing together diverse and experienced teams is a hallmark of operational excellence, and many of our safest and most successful projects were spearheaded by cross-regional partnerships. Committed
to building and nurturing strong, long-term relationships, our teams brought individuals from every part of the company together, leveraging our talent from the office to the trailer, to make sure that throughout the entire project lifecycle, our clients know how committed we are to them and their future endeavors.

As a community-based builder, giving back is at the heart
of much of the work we do. We believe building stronger communities goes beyond building the spaces where people live and work. We’re also passionate about building up our neighborhoods and helping those in need. In 2019, McCarthy Holdings, Inc. donated more than $3 million to approximately 250 charities nationwide.

safety
We didn’t change our approach to safety, we just clarified how we communicate it. Simply put, if you step onto one of our jobsites, we are committed to your safety. Our “total project” focus means that without question, when we are involved, we own safety on site – in every way, for every person, every day.
As we inch closer to 30 million labor hours alongside our trade partners, we become more vigilant to ensure that every single person goes home safely every night. We say it’s the most important thing we do – and we mean it.
Proving Value
through
Collaboration
With a focus on our core purpose, to be the Best Builder in America, we spent the year working within our newly-formed five-region structure. Teams created more ways to collaborate with their partners across the company in a variety of markets to better serve the needs of our clients and forge stronger relationships with trade partners.
From solar to water/wastewater; lab work, healthcare and aviation, we leveraged expertise and home-grown talent, shared expertise and people. Diverse perspectives strengthened our approach to pursuing, winning, planning and completing the work – which resulted in proven value to
our clients.

& safety first
Our long-established commitment to safety empowered us to quickly adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic, helping ensure the health and safety
of our employee-owners, workforce and communities while delivering the results our clients expect. Not only did we overcome ever-evolving safety challenges, we also set safety records while completing nearly 29 million labor hours alongside our trade partners. We accomplished this by embracing new, innovative solutions often developed directly by those doing the work — many of which have been made permanent elements
of our approach to safety.
On July 24, 2020, a new company structure was created under the
Genuine McCarthy Employee Stock Ownership Plan. These changes resulted in a new parent entity, Genuine McCarthy Enterprises, Inc., as
well as a new subsidiary entity, 1864 Holdings, LLC. This new structure was the result of a thoughtful and strategic approach to protect and diversify our surplus capital. With the addition of 1864 Holdings, LLC
we now have a secondary income stream to complement our core construction business, different from the risks and cycles of the construction market, which will grow the ESOP’s value for our
employee-owners.
By leveraging our breadth of talent, ideas and innovative solutions developed across the country, our teams rose to the challenge of building during a pandemic without sacrificing safety, quality or speed. Our ongoing focus on building strong, long-term relationships ensured we understood our clients’ goals and were able to adjust accordingly to achieve them.
